Following on from the Borneo Bears AFL Grand Final function and initiatives by the club committee early on in the year we are proud to announce that Rama – Gilang – Noor and Timbul are traveling to Darwin, Australia to train and play with the Darwin Waratahs football club on Friday 20th November .
This initiative originally started with the help of our great friend, life member, avid supporter, AFL Football Legend and Hawthorn Great Mr Gary Buckenara – Gary through his contacts with Mr Garry Smart from the Waratah Football club in Darwin, the Borneo Bears Committee and Mr Shane Kruger our former Borneo Bears coach have given the opportunity for these Balikpapan players to travel to Australia to gain experience, knowledge and play AFL Football in Darwin, Australia. We would also like to thank the parents of these players for their support and understanding in allowing their sons to have the opportunity to hopefully fulfil a dream. Who knows where this will lead in development of these 4 players and our other Balikpapan Bears players – This is a real milestone for the Borneo Bears Football Club.
Whilst In Australia the players will looked after by Mr Shane Kruger and his wife Amelia – this played a very significant part in getting the permission from the parents for their sons to travel to Australia as they know they will be well looked after –

Our internal club competition start up is fast approaching so in the next week we will display the team jumpers and players kits on the Borneo Bears Web Page – we are aiming for one game before the Christmas break – the players are being fine-tuned by coach Once as seen during our fortnightly games, the players are enjoying the extra playing time now we have secured a permanent ground – The Telkom ground is just big enough but more important is we have a fixed schedule for training and playing –
